We will clear Godbole's misunderstandings: BhujbalSwati Kulkarni in Bombay Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said on Wednesday that the state government will clear all the doubts that Enron renegotiation panel chief Madhav Godbole has and request him to reconsider his decision to resign. "Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar never said that Godbole had a 'negative approach'. He merely said that the committee should have a positive outlook. It was the newspapers that highlighted the report attributing the negative remark to Pawar," Bhujbal told reporters in Bombay. "The state cabinet had approved Godbole's appointment and this involved half of the NCP. We debated the decision to appoint Godbole on the Enron panel at the party level after Pawar's approval. And we all had supported whatever Pawar had said," Bhujbal said. When told that Godbole found Pawar's remarks against him derogatory, Bhujbal said: "We will clear the misunderstanding." "We shall not accept his resignation and we have requested him to reconsider his decision," Bhujbal said, when asked if this would derail the entire Enron renegotiation process. Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh who also addressed the press with Bhujbal said: "We have received Godbole's resignation, but we have rejected it and asked him to continue with the task on hand." "No, he has not accepted the government's request yet," informed Deshmukh when asked about Godbole's response. The state chief minister said, "Godbole resigned following Sharad Pawar's televised statement and the news reports in print media which said that Pawar had made comments against him." Interestingly, earlier Maharashtra Energy Minister Dr Padamsinh Patil and Sharad Pawar had both strongly objected to the formation of the renegotiation committee itself. Deshmukh also stated that it was the government's decision to appoint Godbole as chief of the Enron re-negotiation panel. "Whatever Pawar has said is not the government's view. Pawar is free to air his views," he added. "Even Mrinal Gore of Janata Dal (Secular) and N D Patil of the Peasants' and Workers' Party have requested me not to accept his resignation," said the chief minister. Both Gore and Patil were quite firm that the entire Enron project be scrapped earlier. The change in their stance now indicates that they are in favour of the renegotiation process. MSEB unions to agitate against Enron Meanwhile, the five unions of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board will hold demonstrations -- Enron Hatao, Desh Bachao (Remove Enron, save the nation) -- on June 5 at Dabhol to 'create awareness among the people'. The five organisations that will participate in the agitation are MSEB Workers' Federation, MSEB Intuc Federation, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Magas Vargiya Vidyoot Sanghathana, and Subordinate Engineers' Association.
