'There are fewer pigeons outside Taj Hotel'

December 22, 2008
The efficiency of the doctors at the SPCA can be gauged by the fact that within three weeks, 10 of the 13 pigeons have recovered fully and flown away.

"When these pigeons were admitted to the hospital, they responded to the normal food and diet. Some of them recovered completely and flew off. Three pigeons are still down with wing fractures, head and leg injuries. We will be looking after them and giving them full attention till they recover. We keep the cage open in the night, so that they can fly off if they want to," he said.

During his recent visits to that same spot, Dr Kaginkar has observed that the number of pigeons feeding outside the Taj Hotel and the Gateway of India has reduced considerably.

"They might have gone on a temporary migration phase. If there is continuous noise pollution, then they cannot feed. They migrate temporarily to some other place. Some of the pigeons have not left because they have nests and have laid eggs too. These pigeons might have undergone a lot of stress, as neither water nor grain was available during the terror seige," he explained.
