'Injured animals from all over Mumbai are brought here'

December 22, 2008
The sprawling Bombay SPCA, including the Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals, is around 135 years old and is now recognised as a heritage site.

"You can imagine the vision they had 135 years back, because even today we are using the same infrastructure at the hospital, without any kind of alteration. It is a great help for animals. We do give a lot of attention to stray dogs around Mumbai. We give them medicines and conduct surgeries free of charge," says Dr Kaginkar.

"If we get information about any animal being treated cruelly or being harassed, we immediately send our inspectors to investigate and take appropriate action. We have eight ambulances, which are used to ferry injured animals from all over Mumbai to the hospital, for treatment," says Dr Kaginkar.
