The atmosphere was informal, far removed from the proper, traditional backdrops against which Ratnam is more used to dancing in her native Chennai, and across India.
Families brought blankets and picnic baskets and chilled out on the grass lawns in front of the giant open-air stage.
Ratnam said she found the atmosphere challenging, and fulfilling. "When you dance in an open-air setting, it is in many ways more challenging because you have to make sure people pay attention. Nature, the open air, can be a distracting influence and people can therefore lose track of what you are doing, which makes holding their attention a challenge.
"Fortunately, it all went off very well," Ratnam said. "I enjoyed myself, had a lot of fun."
