A dangerous mind
On May 9, 2003, Biswanath Halder, a naturalized American citizen, entered the Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio -- from where he had earned a master's degree in business administration -- with semi-automatic weapons and held some 140 persons hostage for seven hours. In the ensuing gun-battle, Halder killed a student, Norman Wallace, and injured two others before he was overpowered by the security forces.
Last Friday, Halder, 65, was convicted on 196 counts by a court in Cleveland. The jury will take a few more days to decide if he should serve a life sentence or get the electric chair.
