After a talk that lasted 45 minutes, President Hu noted that this was the fourth meeting between both leaders, saying that India and China were partners, not adversaries. He added that the partnership would benefit not just Asia, but the world.

Dr Singh referred to the economic relationship between both countries, pointing out that even though trade between the two was improving, there was a lot of untapped potential.

The Chinese President said that 2006 was the year of friendship between India and China, adding that the celebrations would bring them even closer.
