I have been selling snacks at India Gate for the last 10 years. I have witnessed Republic Day celebrations every year since then. But I have never seen the parade. I cannot go inside because I cannot afford the ticket.

I sell my snacks to spectators around India Gate after the parade is over.

I think things are changing now. There is not much enthusiasm in the public. The crowd is decreasing every year.

Earlier locals used to come in large numbers. Now most spectators are from villages and far away places. For me, it is like any other day. I spend the whole day here and go home late in the night.

As told to Ehtasham Khan
