I am from Kohima. I study in Class IX. This is my second visit to New Delhi. We did the hornbill dance and I was dressed like a hornbill. The dance celebrates harvesting in our state.

There was a big competition in our school for those who wanted to participate in the float. I was selected after passing through several stages. We prepared for three months. It has affected my studies a little bit. But I will study extra hours after going back.

My parents are happy about my participation. Republic Day is an entirely different kind of experience. We meet lots of people and learn more about our country. We have so many dances and songs. We are proud of our culture. People in other parts of India do not know much about Nagaland. So this is one opportunity to show our culture. I am excited. My friends will give me a grand welcome when I return.

As told to Ehtasham Khan
