'I have done enough bikini shots'

Making it big in Bollywood is tough, as 2006 Kingfisher Calendar girl Shaurya Chauhan found out.

But she's not calling it quits anytime soon.

The model-turned-actress of films like Mumbai Salsa and Horn Ok Please tells Nithya Ramani why she chose Bollywood over gymnastics and why she is very close to Nana Patekar.

First, tell us about yourself.

I'm from Delhi. My father is an army man, so we travelled a lot. I finally settled in Hyderabad, and did my studies there. I also learnt gymnastics and represented India at the national level. But I saw no future there.

By then, I got interested in modelling. I shot with ace photographers and made a name for myself down south before shifting to Mumbai for better prospects. A week after landing in Mumbai, I was asked to model for the Kingfisher Calendar. It was my first assignment and gave me a good stepping stone to Bollywood.

Deepak Tijori auditioned me for a film he was planning to make. But since that didn't happen, he suggested my name to [director] Manoj Tyagi. That's how I became a part of Mumbai Salsa. I've not looked back since.
