Anurag Kashyap's long-awaited Gulaal looks very promising, thanks to its ensemble cast and intense political story.
Before it releases in theatres on March 13, we introduce you to the main characters, and the actors who play them.
Mahi Gill
Role: I play Madhuri, the mistress of Dukey Bana (played by Kay Kay Menon
). She is a struggling actress and runs a beauty parlour. Since she loves acting and dancing, she does a
mujra when Kay Kay tell us her. She is a bit eccentric.
Working with Kay Kay: It was great working with Kay Kay. He's not only a good actor, he's also a very nice and helpful person. I had to do a difficult scene, where he was not required. But to help me out, he stood there, so that I get my expressions right.
Here's what Kay Kay Menon had to say about Gulaal
On the sets: I have two mujras in the film -- Ranaji and Beedo. The day before I was to shoot for Ranaji, I had a fall and suffered a back injury. Yet, I had to dance. We shot the entire song in eight hours, as we did not have permission to use the location the next day. My choreographer Manasi was very helpful during the breaks and they kept putting an ice pack on my back.
We shot Beedo in three and a half hours. After both the songs, my back was in a very bad shape, and I had to take complete bed rest.
Working with Anurag: I enjoyed that. Even if he asks me to stand in the crowd for one scene, I will do it for him. I have an emotional attachment to him because he gave me my first film, Dev D (Mahi played Paro). If he had not given me Paro, I would not have been famous.
