Dressing up Anushka, Sonu Sood

Deepa Chander dresses stars for a living. In fact, her last assignment was dressing up Anushka, Sonu Sood and Sayaji Shinde for the Telugu blockbuster Arundhati.

Very few know that Deepa has worked in about 40 films and has a clientele which inlcudes Bhumika Chawla, NTR Jr and Prabhas.

Deepa, born and brought up in Nigeria, shifted to Hyderabad a little over two decades ago. Armed with a Masters in Psychology, Deepa changed tracks to interior designing and from there to costume designing.

She speaks to Radhika Rajamani about Arundhati and her amazing journey.

How did you land up as costume designer for Arundhati?

While working on the film, Maya Bazaar, Kavita, one of the assistant directors, gave my number to Rahul Nambiar [creative director]. I met Rahul and Shyam Prasad Reddy [producer]. After hearing the character description of Arundhati, her brother-in-law [Sonu Sood] and the fakir, I was asked to make some sketches. When I showed the sketches, I was asked to make the prototype. Shyam and the others liked what they saw and I was signed up for the project. I later on tweaked that dress.
