Aishwarya Rai Bachchan set a record of sorts last week. She became the first Indian actress to feature in a film that was showing in over 3,000 theatres in North America.
But the comedy The Pink Panther 2 is struggling at the box office, doing precious little to boost Ash's Hollywood career.
The film, toplining Steve Martin (who also contributed to the script) as the bungling Inspector Clouseau, was harshly slammed by critics. It 'stumbles, bumbles and bores,' complained USA Today.
Ash's performance also came for criticism. She plays a supporting role in the film and gets the fifth billing in the credits. She plays Sonia, part of a dream team assembled to help Clouseau, commissioned to help find a stolen diamond.
'The most wooden acting in the film belongs to Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan,' USA Today declared. 'She looks gorgeous, but her expression rarely changes.'
