'If my film had come first, would anyone have asked the Chak De India director whether he got influenced by my film?'

You have not once mentioned the name of the heroine. Why did you opt for such a novel idea?

When I was young, I had gone to a festival in my village, and there I met this beautiful girl. It was love at first sight for me. We smiled at each other. After some time she got on a bus after waving at me. There ended my first love! Based on this experience, I created this girl. How can I give her a name when I had no time ask her?

That is the most interesting part of the film...

Yes, when we take incidents from life, they become interesting.

The coach Savalai Muthu is the most appreciated character in the film. Is he also based on a real life character?

He is not from real life though I wish I had seen a person like that. The kabadi team is a losing team, and the only person who can make it a winning team is the coach, and that is why I created such a character. And I wanted my team to win in the end! It is like the underdog winning.

Not only that, I have told the audience that the team is full of rowdies who never listen to anyone. Only a teacher can bring order to such a team.

Today, everybody is asking whether I was influenced by Chak De India. But the truth is, I had written the script so long ago. You know how tough it is for a debutant to make his first film. If my film had come first, would anyone have asked the Chak De India director whether he got influenced by my film?

Because my film got delayed, many people ask me why I made my film like Subramaniapuram? But both of us shot our films at the same time.
