No, Mari is me. All that he goes through in the film are my own experiences. Of course, I have derived some inspiration from my father too but I created Marimuthu based on my life and what I have gone through.

Your hero Mari is portrayed by Vishnu, who is an urban youth and not a Tamil. Why did you choose Vishnu and not a youngster from a village?

My producer knew Vishnu's father (an IPS officer) and he wanted me to cast him as the hero. Yes, I was initially a bit apprehensive about how he would understand Mari and portray him realistically. What I asked him to do first was to acquire an all-body tan. And he followed all my instructions to come out with a good performance.
