'I wanted only new faces'

Are your characters drawn from real life?

Yes, they are all from real life. There are people in my village who have dedicated their lives to this game but have not achieved anything substantially. Many of them are in their late thirties and early forties and are not even married. So dedicated have they been to Kabadi that they lost their personal lives in the bargain. Even today, they are fighting to get recognised.

When I sat down to write the script, all those faces came in front of me. They were so many of them, each different from the other. I chose some of them as my characters.

So, each and every character in the film is based on someone I know and played with.

You have all new faces in the film...

I wanted only new faces. Only then will people identify with the characters. Now, the audience looks at my film as something real with real people in it.
