'Shyam babu is very chilled out'

Is it true that you got the title renamed from Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur to Welcome to Sajjanpur?

Not at all. It was the units' decision. We had sets of a complete village in Ramoji studios in Hyderabad. Whenever we met on the sets for shooting we would greet each other by saying 'Welcome to Sajjanpur' or 'Sajjanpur main aapka swagat hai.' That is how the title came about.

How was it working with Shyam Benegal?

I had great time working with Shyam babu. I thought I completed this movie the fastest. We shot in one schedule of 30 days from start to finish. I felt that the youngest person on the sets was Shyam babu. He is very chilled out.

At first I was bit nervous and scared as he is very senior. I thought he would be strict and would not allow us to fool around on the sets. But on the first day itself, when he was shooting with Ravi Kissen, he was cracking one liners with a very straight face.

I was not sure such a senior person would be joking all the time. On top of that we had the liberty to do whatever we wanted in our role. He encouraged us to improvise. He was so approachable that we would go to him with our suggestions. There was a lot of interaction and discussion going on.
