Were you sceptical about doing Shyam Benegal's first romantic movie since he is known for serious movies?
It has always been my dream to work with Shyam babu as he has worked with all the stalwarts of the industry. When he told me about Sajjanpur, I was very excited. I thought it was going to be another serious film. But when he gave me the script, I knew he was the only one to do justice to it.
How is Amrita Rao as a co-star?
Amrita is very sincere and hardworking. This is the first film where she is playing a role of an uneducated villager. Plus, in this movie we are not even saying our dialogues in proper Hindi but a different dialect of Hindi, which is called Bhagelkhandi (very close to Bhojpuri).
As she was a bit uncomfortable with the language, she would sit with the writer to learn her dialogues and rehearse for the next day. Every free time she got, she rehearsed.
