'Karan is very particular about the sets and costumes'

How did Dostana happen?

As I told you, Tarun and I are great friends. The group that worked on KANK is the same that worked on Dostana. I shifted to Mumbai in 2003, got married last November and immediately started working on Dostana. I hadn't even read the script. I agreed to do the film before my wedding and started work after my wedding.

How did you agree to do the film without reading the script?

It was Tarun's script. That was more than enough a reason for me to do the film. And when I did read the script I pretty much had an idea of what he wanted.

What was the first set you made?

There were three major sets -- the house, the office and the Desi Girl situation. The rest were very simple floor plans. We had our first schedule in Miami where we did a lot of research on the types of houses there. I realised that the houses there were large and spacious compared to cramped apartments in New York.

How long did it take for you to rebuild the same here?

The basic plan was ready in 25 days.

How was the experience working with Dharma Productions for your first project?

It was a great experience. I was learning a lot. The very fact that they considered me worth working with such a big banner itself was a big deal for me. I was very nervous but since I had the same crew I had worked with in KANK, it was lot easier.

Working with Karan is a pleasure. He is very involved and particular about the sets and costumes.
