When John, Abhishek & Priyanka shared a 3BHK flat!

Lavish and over the top sets go hand in hand with Karan Johar's films. His latest movie, Dostana starring John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra, was shot in Miami, USA.

At the helm is Tarun Mansukhani (this is his directorial debut) while the person responsible for the film's look is art director Amrita Mahal.

Nithya Ramani caught up with the art director for more. Excerpts:

Where are your from and how did you get into film art direction?

I am from Chandigargh. I graduated in commercial arts. My sister lives in Mumbai and works for an ad agency and does ad films. So I shifted to Mumbai and assisted her in her ad film making. Then I worked with Sonal Sawant, the art director of Lakshya and started assisting Sharmishta Roy for four years and worked with her on Bunty Aur Babli.

Then I did Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, again with Sharmishta Roy. There is where I met Tarun Mansukhani. We became great friends. He asked me to work with him on his first directorial venture -- Dostana. I jumped at the chance.

Did you want work for films?

No. Films were never on my mind. I came to Mumbai keeping advertising in mind. Films just happened.

So was this like a small town girl coming to Mumbai and making it big?

No. I've been travelling all my life. My father works for the Air Force and have travelled around India. I lived in Mumbai, did my schooling here, shifted to Delhi and then to Chandigargh.
