Once again it was K Balachander who introduced Kamal Hassan to the Telugu film industry when he re-made his Tamil success Aval Oru Thodar Kathai as Anthu Leni Katha in 1976.

But it was K Balachander's Maro Charithra (1978) which made the actor a major star. The film was later remade in Hindi as Ek Duje ke Liye, which again starred Kamal as a young Tamilian who falls for a Telugu girl, Saritha.

Music by the maestro M S Viswanathan also contributed to the success of the movie. Needless to say, the film was an unprecedented hit.
