This is the Tamil version of the successful Malayalam film Udhayananu Tharam, starring Mohanlal and Sreenivasan It is the story of a struggling actor and an assistant director.

Prakashraj and Prithviraj donned these roles respectively, and brought a degree of realism that was refreshing. After a long time, here was s movie that dealt with the issues of plagiarism, and depicted the movie industry with all its quirks, heartaches, successes and failures.

Directed by Viji, Vellithirai (Silverscreen) might not have been a blockbuster -- but it had some good stuff going for it.
