A Vijay movie is no longer just a film; it's an occasion to dance, throw garlands and perform poojas for the star every time he appears onscreen. Consequently, Vijay's movies all have to measure up to 'mass' expectations: Pokkiri is one such film.

The Telugu version, also called Pokkiri (Rogue), was easy to transform, as it had already been written for the Telugu superstar, 'Prince' Mahesh Babu, and his heroine, Ileana.

Prabhudeva cast Asin as the female lead, and turned out a storyline of a rugged mercenary who will kill for any reason, filled with many twists and turns, and managed to bring out a hit.

Vijay's star-value and Asin’s good looks managed to save the day, making Pokkiri a huge hit.
