Remakes flooding Tamil cinema!

Imitation is the best form of flattery, they say. If so, the current rage of remade movies reigning supreme in Tamil ought to have made the original makers extraordinarily pretty smug.

Here's a look at some of the recent movies that have a made a successful transition into Tamil and carved a niche in the industry as well.

Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008)

Touted one of the first blockbusters of summer 2008, Yaaradi Nee Mohini named after a trendsetting Sivaji Ganesan song, is a remake of the Telugu runaway hit, Aadavari Maatalaku Ardhaale Verule.

The original starred hit pair Venkatesh and Trisha Krishnan, both stars in their own right. But it was director Selvaraghavan's screenplay that ensured the movie's success.

The Tamil version, directed by Mithran R Jawahar, presented Dhanush and Nayanthara in the lead roles, and proved to be even more slickly made. It might have been the usual love story, but little realistic touches added to the screenplay, the representation of today's software scenario, and a healthy dose of comedy made sure that YNM scored at the box-office.
