Marathi cinema rules the box office!

Until recently, Marathi movies were a no-show at multiplexes. While Hindi films were screened for weeks, a Marathi movie was lucky to survive even two shows, sometimes at very inconvenient timings.

Things have changed now. Marathi cinema got a shot in the arm with the success of Mahesh Manjrekar's De Dhakka. Now, multiplex owners are so charged up with the Marathi success story that they are arranging more shows for Marathi films.

Nikhil Sane, business head, Zee Marathi stated that De Dhakka is running houseful in theatres, at around 90 places across Maharashtra. The film has entered its sixth week and is still going strong.

Though Sane was unwilling to give actual box office figures, trade analyst and Marathi film distributor, Sadik Chitalikar said De Dhakka will easily cross Rs 7 crores in the coming weeks.
