Bringing back the serious to Malayalam cinema

The story of Kutty Sranku played by Mammootty is being told through the narratives of three women after he is found dead.

Kamalini Mukherjee, who was noted in Vettayadu Vilayadu, Padmapriya and Sri Lankan actor Meena Kumari play the female leads in the film.

The three women belong to three coastal areas -- Travancore, Kochi and Malabar -- and represent three seasons. Though the film is essentially based in the 1950s, the narratives often go beyond the times.

In the story, Kutty Sranku's origin or whereabouts are known to none. During his stay in Kochi, he becomes part of a Chavittunatakam troupe and meets Pemmena (Kamalini Mukherjee). She has a fascination for him, but he never really reciprocates the feelings. She later realizes that he had a wife by then, a deaf and mute woman called Kali (Meena Kumari).

The third woman in the picture, Revamma (Padmapriya), meets the Sranku during his stint at the Malabar coast. She has studied medicine from Sri Lanka and gets too close to Buddhist principles at a certain point of time in her life.
