To be fair, the eternally smarmy Prem Chopra was a stock fiend frequently told by ill-fated girlfriends that they were about to become the mother of his children. They never did, usually perishing from death by cliff-drop mere minutes after this revelation was made to Chopra.
A terrific embodiment of the smooth and cold bastard, Chopra would often use his own name as his screen name, further blurring the line between real and reel. Audiences loathed Chopra, which was his greatest triumph.
This line, much recycled over the years, first appeared in Bobby. Chopra tosses out this verbal calling card, a la James Bond: 'The name is Prem, Prem Chopra,' he tells us. As if we could ever forget.
