Bringing the suave touch to the Hindi film baddie, Ajit was possibly the most distinctive of them all. His suits were immaculate, his dens supremely sleazy, and his plans ambitious enough to make Ernst Stavro Blofeld feel small.
Above all were the lines, though. His henchmen -- Robert, Peter and Michael -- became legends by default, as did his moll, Mona Darling. Ajit spun-off more jokes than any other Bollywood character, and while he might not have said them all, his spirit is unmistakable.
Kalicharan was the film that began it all, with Ajit's deep voice reminding us that the entire city knows of him as -- and the genius lies in the distorted pronunciation -- The Lion.
