Lagaan (2001)
When the announcement came, no one in India could believe it. Aamir's latest film had made to the last list of the Best Foreign Film category. There was lobbying from all quarters and everyone in India felt Lagaan would finally be the first Indian film to win. It was pitted against two big titles -- French film Amilie and Bosnian film No Man's Land.
No Man's Land was the surprise winner.
