India's Oscar entry in this decade
Devdas (2002)
In 2002, it was Shah Rukh's turn to prove himself. He was high on the success of the film and also the fact that he and Aishwarya Rai had charmed international audiences at Cannes. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had shot the film beautifully and many felt, like Lagaan, Devdas too could make it to the Oscar list. Unfortunately, it didn't.
The other films that made up India's list to the Oscars were Rajkumar Santoshi's The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Karan Johar's Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham.
