An evening with the Bachchans

Amitabh's performance was lively but never flamboyant. His voice rose occasionally but it also dropped slowly when the poem demanded it.

His gestures too were never effusive. It was like he did not want to be a movie star on the stage on this particular day. It was like he was convinced that his father's work should get all the attention --- and that the evening was not going to be a theatrical evening.

The audience, in return appreciated his efforts.

Some people had wondered if he would invite son Abhishek to recite a few lines but the organisers had said earlier that this was not going to happen.

At the start of the recital, he said his father had also composed the tunes for Madhushala but he was not going to sing. And yet from time to time, audiences requested that he sing a few lines. But he politely refused.
