Sunidhi: How you conceived the idea of raising your hands style in the song, Lift Kara De?
Adnan: During the filming of the video, I was constantly dancing. Sometimes I needed the music to be played loudly and sometimes softly. So, I was lifting my hand to make people behind camera understand when they had to increase the volume and when they had to reduce it. And this became a dancing step accidentally.
Sunidhi: (laughs) Do you enjoy doing shows?
Adnan: I love it. The response of the audience creates a tremendous feeling.
Sunidhi: I recall a show in which you sang a Ray Charles song. You looked like a rock star though you were seated and playing a piano.
Adnan: I have been influenced greatly by Ray Charles. He had passed away and I was very upset. That's why I sang his song and paid a tribute to him.
Sunidhi: You sang a peace song for Africa.
Adnan: Yes, it was in 1980 during the famine of Ethiopia. Everyone was doing something to help Ethiopia. My family was based in Dubai then and the middle east countries also wanted to contribute something for Ethiopia. They had organised the concert and I composed the song, Run for your life. I got a UN peace medal and UNICEF award for the same. I was 17 years old then and it was my first hit.
