Adnan Sami: I lost 90 kg

Sunidhi: Which album are you working on now?

Adnan: Kisi Din, some day. It will be ready by first week of January. I am very excited. It is a representation of my new state of mind -- (laughs) starving state. As a composer, I have moved in a different direction. I have composed it as well as arranged it.

Manish: Your videos are beautiful. Tell us about the new trend you started by casting Bollywood heroines like Rani Mukerji and Amisha Patel.

Sunidhi: Who is your favourite?

Adnan: They all are wonderful. I requested them to be a part of my video and they complied. I am sentimental about all of them.

Sunidhi: Udi Udi from Saathiya is my favourite song. How did evolve?

Adnan: We were recording in Chennai. I was feeling under the weather with a cold and hoarse throat. I requested A R Rahman to cancel the recording but he asked me to give a shot. The different texture of my voice in that song was the result of my hoarse throat.

Sunidhi: Tell us about the Maula song with Amitabh Bachchan.

Adnan: It was an extremely memorable moment. Like others, I too grew up loving him. I met him first when I was 10 years old. After I wrote this song, I went to him and asked him to listen. He heard it and smiled. Then I asked him to sing the song with me. He said he was not a singer but I pointed out that he had sung before and very well too. So he agreed to sing. But he said he would sing in a lower octave. I wanted him to sing in the mid or higher range so I said that we would try out my way first and if it didn't worked then we would use the lower octave. We rehearsed the song with big monitors and speakers in a big studio and not within close doors. The result was wonderful. Amitabh Bachchan sang freely without any headphones. It was wonderful to watch him. He too was pleased with results. During the shooting of the video too, he was in his element. He doesn't rehearse. He saves his energy for the final shoot. It was a great learning experience.
