Hrithik in, Shah Rukh out

Vivah

This Sooraj Barjatya film was the biggest surprise hit of the year.

Vivah was a non-starter, and many felt the subject was too old fashioned to catch the interest of the young movie-going crowd.

But positive word-of-mouth changed everything. People flocked to the theatres, and made it a sellout.

"The gross revenue of Vivah was Rs 65 crore," Komal Nehta says. "It is less than the other films but the investment was quite less too."

The film gave a much-needed hit to Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao. In fact, the film made Amrita painter M F Husain's latest muse.
