Hrithik in, Shah Rukh out

This year will probably be best remembered as the time Hrithik Roshan overtook Bollywood's badshah Shah Rukh Khan at the box office.

Hrithik's two releases, Krrish and Dhoom:2, feature among the top hits of the year, both highlighting Duggu at his best.

Meanwhile, SRK's films Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Don opened to mixed reviews and unimpressive box office collections, at least in India.

But this is just one of the big surprises 2006 offered. rediff.com takes a look at the biggest hits of the year.

Dhoom:2

2006 was definitely the year of sequels.

Dhoom:2 proved to be a bigger hit than the original, Dhoom. Despite mixed reviews (which included universal praise for Hrithik), the Sanjay Gadhvi film got a phenomenal opening in India as well as abroad.

"The film has grossed Rs 165 crores worldwide and is the number one hit of the year," says Komal Nahta, noted trade analyst.

Like every year, Dhoom:2 proved that Yash Raj was indeed the most successful banner in Bollywood.
