He was nominated at the Oscars for the delightful comedy Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (Amèlie) in 2001.

In 1995, he received a Golden Palm nomination at Cannes for his children's fantasy, La Cité des enfants perdus (The City of Lost Children).

Sadly for Jean-Pierre Genet, he won neither. But the 49-year-old French director was all smiles as he escorted actress Jamie Lee Curtis at the premiere of The Matrix: Reloaded.
