Sudha Chandran

Convincing as the scheming businesswoman and the wicked stepmother who does not think twice before attempting to kill her son and daughter-in-law, Sudha Chandran had to wait several years for success as Ramola Sikand in Kaahin Kissi Roz.

"When I signed KKR," she says, "I never imagined that Ramola would create such a furore. Today, this character is being talked about not only for her viciousness, but also for her saris, finger rings, tikka, jewellery, even her eyelashes! It is the most happening character. People love to watch positive characters like Parvati in KGGK and Tulsi in KSBKBT. These are household names and are identified with easily. Ramola too has carved a niche for herself."

The fact that she prefers television to films is evident. "In movies, I was reduced to playing the weepy bhabhi," she says. "I am a good actress, but did films like Shola Aur Shabnam, Raghuvir and Qaid Mein Hai Bulbul. People thought comedy wasn't my cup of tea. Gautam Adhikari thought otherwise and cast me in Kabhi Idhar Kabhi Udhar with Shekhar Suman, which was a roaring success. Ekta Kapoor had the ultimate role for me in KKR."
