eJeevika: Training rural folk for jobs

February 2, 2009

In sales, eJeevika has plans to expand to other verticals like insurance, FMCG (fast moving consumer goods), retail products, house to house sales, tele-calling, etc. In data entry, the aim is to get into data conversion, data analysis and bank operations.

As a part of creating a data base, in December 2008, eJeevika organised a job fair in Kancheepuram. What eJeevika did was screen the long queue of candidates and shoot their video resumes so that they can take the video database to their clients who in turn need not interview hundreds of people for a handful of jobs.

If the client finds some candidates good enough, they are given an offer letter which would be followed by eJeevika training them. Soon, there would also be job fairs in Thiruvalluvar and Cuddalore.

Is Prof Jhunjhunwala happy with the progress eJeevika has made so far? "In a way, yes. I am very happy with what I have seen so far. In another way, I am not happy till I see the business thriving and rural people benefitting. We are seeing only early results so far."
