eJeevika: Training rural folk for jobs

February 2, 2009

From the time eJeevika was born, in the last seven months, the firm has trained more than 150 rural people, of which 75 were taken by NIS Sparta. As corporates like Reliance and some telecom companies are opening outlets in rural areas and smaller towns, there is a demand for trained manpower in these areas, and that is where firms like eJeevika play a role.

"When we found that the project is backed by Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, we not only became their client but a sponsor of the project too. We are used to taking people only from the metros, but the candidates trained by eJeevika are very good and confident. Another thing we found is that these people are more committed and disciplined than those from the metros. We are extremely satisfied with what eJeevika does. It has made a tremendous difference on the people. We are very happy with the results," said Subramanian Seshadri, country head, NIS Sparta.

For data entry, eJeevika has tied up with HOV Services, one of the largest in the BPO (business process outsourcing) sector.

For security services, it has signed up with G4S Security Services. But Richa says the aspirations of the youth in Tamil Nadu are different. "Very few want to be in the security services although though there is a huge demand for them."

Though they have been training rural youth for various clients, they have not been charging them "as we are a young start-up," but very soon, eJeevika wants to charge its clients.
