'We had to drive on the beach to get to our hotel'

The road from Kharagpur was smooth. The Kona highway has wide roads and is very well maintained. From Contai, we took the bypass road into the Kolkata-Digha road. Soon we turned into a dirt road that led to the beach. One has to be very careful while on this dirt track as it is very rough and bumpy and goes on for a good 3 to 4 km. It is a good idea to travel in an SUV, a small car may give trouble on the rough track.

We reached the beach front and had to drive on the sand to get to our hotel. Driving by the beach is certainly not good for our ecology, but then there is no other choice at the moment. Before heading to Mandarmani for a vacation one must check for high tide because then the beach road becomes unmotorable.
