We wanted to go for a short beach holiday somewhere close to Kolkata, yet some place peaceful and away from the madding crowd. We certainly did not want to go to done to death Digha!
We finally zeroed in on this new beach resort we had heard of -- Mandarmani. We didn't have much idea as to what it was like.
How we got there
Mandarmanid is located in the Purba Medinipur district of South Bengal and is about 180 km from Kolkata airport. We went by road from Kharagpur driving past several towns, including Contai, which falls on the Kolkata-Digha Road. Mandarmani beach resort is gaining popularity only recently and we were eager to see how different it was from Digha, the age-old favourite beach resort in West Bengal.
