Don't re-do coloured hair
February 23, 2009
Don't re-colour dyed sections of your hair. If you need to, opt for a touch-up job near the roots so the colouring stays even, but don't add colour atop colour -- it will leave your hair dry, damaged and susceptible.
If you are determined to redo a dye job in a different colour, you need to go for a clean-out rinse to a stylist first. If you don't, common sense will tell you that it can go horrible wrong. Say you're bleached blonde and now want to go a funky blue. You may apply a blue dye, but hold on -- even school kids know that yellow plus blue will give you green! Yes, your hair will turn out a hideous green! So it is vital to go to a professional and most likely, over the course of several sittings, your old colour needs to be rinsed out from the hair and then your new colour should be added on. Rinses are chemically strong and an added colour job will weaken your cuticles further. So unless it's absolutely vital, avoid doing it.
