Thinking of getting your mane highlighted? rediff.com spoke to hair stylist Ishita Thakkar of BANg'D Salon in Matunga, Mumbai, who shared some valuable advice.
First off, you need to make sure you're doing the right thing by colouring your hair. Don't let other chemical treatments clash with it -- if you've been putting henna in your hair, for instance, and try to colour it later on, the resulting colour will either be different from what you chose or will not catch on at all. This is because the henna has already coated your hair and stops the colour from catching on as it should.
The same goes if you've artificially straightened it -- that has already changed the chemical composition of your hair, so going ahead with a colour job in quick succession will cause more changes and damage. I would say wait a minimum of a month (ideally, six months should be the gap between the two, but most people can't wait that long) between any two chemical hair treatments.
