Ujjayi pranayama (Victory breath)

October 1, 2008

Sit in any meditative pose and shut your eyes. Inhale and exhale deeply a few times. To do ujjayi, inhale with a soft hissing sound that is felt at the throat. Exhale with same sound. This is one round. Do up to nine rounds.

There should be no stress or strain at the throat. Ideally your inhalation length should be equal to that of exhalation. With time and practice, you must however learn to increase the length of exhalation, making it longer than inhalation.

Avoid: If having low blood pressure.

Benefits: Regulates hormones. Is good for voice. Calms the system and is a powerful destressor. Is a cure-all practice.
