Night camping on Mattupetty Hills

It was that time of the year when temperatures dip and everyone around starts cursing the cold weather. It was then that I decided to head to Munnar to experience the freezing weather!

I had never been to Munnar before. I was both excited and disappointed!

Disappointed because my wish to trek to the highest peak in South India, Anaimudi, did not materialize. I couldn't get the necessary permission from the forest officials.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

Anaimudi falls under the core area of the Eravikulam National Park near Munnar. This park is home to the greatly endangered Nilgiri Thar (a type of mountain goat), which is found only in this part of the world. So naturally it is tough to get permission.

Anyways I was happy to trek to another part of Munnar.

I had booked my return ticket through Kallada Travels, in Bangalore. Since there was no direct government bus between Bangalore to Munnar, my only option was to book through a private bus operator.

Little did I know I would have the most harrowing experience of my life!
