Don't embarrass people you know online

June 26, 2008
Rajgopalan, a 24-year-old Chennai-based research and development analyst shares, "I don't have a problem with anything other people do with their profile pages. But when you're posting pictures of girls, even those who are friends, you should always ask their permission first -- it's rude to do so if they're not comfortable with it."

It's rude if anybody is not comfortable with it. You may find it hilarious that a friend belched out the national anthem on camera with only his underwear on, but he won't find it funny if you put up the video on your social networking page.

Anything with the potential to embarrass your friends stays between friends. While you may know everyone on your own profile page intimately, your friend may not -- consequently, they have no right to access his video or laugh at his antics.

If you're so stupid as to humiliate your friends online, don't doubt that it will come back to bite you in the butt. Either you'll be victimised in a similar manner or your friends will shun you, but good.
