Biking to Raigad Fort

I was most interested in visiting the Hirkani Buruj. Most guides skip this as the fort is set across 100 acres and this secret pathway lies in an extreme corner of the cliff, on which the fort was built.

There is an interesting story about Hirkani Buruj. Chhatrapati Shivaji selected Raigad as his capital because the fort was surrounded by steep, absolutely suicidal cliffs on three sides.

Airfare for Rs 100 and less!

It would have been almost impossible for the enemy to enter the fort since the only entrance, the maha darvaja was well guarded by his troops.

The architect of the fort, which took 14 years to complete, claimed only water would be able to trickle down and air would be able rise up to the fort without the king's permission.

But as the story goes a milkmaid, Hirkani proved him wrong.
