Biking to Raigad Fort

As we started climbing the steps, with each step we took, we felt like our legs weighed 100 kilos each

Our fatigue was aggravated by the sun's fury and the four litres of water in our bag. The climb was slow initially. We took pictures of the fort from all angles. We got some great shots, and the photo breaks also gave us a much-needed breather.

On our way up we met a vendor, Ranjana Gore, selling buttermilk and grapes, who offered to become our official guide. She lived in Pachad, the village below.

Airfare for Rs 100 and less!

I had read about various spots to visit like the samadhi of Shivaji, the Rani Mahal, the Hathi Tank (elephant tank for drinking water), Takmaktok, Bazaar Peth, the Simhasan (throne), the Nagarkhana and the main palace.

I decided to test her knowledge and asked her she could show us. She named all these sights and many more.

So we went up together. We stopped at various points to shoot pictures, while she stopped whenever she saw visitors to try and sell them buttermilk and grapes.

The grapes were called karwand in Marathi. I guess they were grapes, if not then they were something similar.
