Biking to Raigad Fort

We took a left turn on the Mumbai-Goa highway near Mahad.

One cannot miss the turn as a big poster of Shivaji, with two lions on pillars, greets visitors here.

Airfare for Rs 100 and less!

Raigad Fort is just 22 kms away. The road was bad in patches but I was confident my bike could weather all sort of road conditions.

We reached the base of the fort, where we had tea. I left my helmet with the shopkeeper because I forgot to bring my helmet lock.

On the way we clicked a few pictures of the first views of the fort.

Raigad was the capital of the great Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji. The fort rises 1,350 m (4,530 ft) above sea level and is located in the Sahyadri mountain range.

There are approximately 1,400-1,450 steps leading to the fort. A ropeway (cable car) exists too for who do not want to climb.
