Biking to Raigad Fort

We, my colleague Basu and I, started planning for our bike trip and trek to Fort Raigad, near Mahad town in western Maharashtra, a month in advance.

Although we decided to leave Pune at 4.30 am, we finally left at five. It was still dark and cold. In Pune, even at the height of summer the nights are cool especially if you are biking.

• Dont miss: Airfare for Rs 100 and less!

We did not take any major halts, just a couple of short breaks. We thought it would rain since it was cloudy and misty, but thankfully it didn't. The ride in the early morning mist between six and seven was breathtaking.

The odometer on my bike read 29,890 kms when we started. The journey through the ghats and on the Mumbai-Goa highway was fantastic! I managed to speed up to 120 kmph breaking my previous high of 110 kmph.
