To Jog's raging waters

Immediately, my friends and I planned a trip. An overnight bus from Bangalore took us to Sagar in Shimoga district. From there we managed to get a car to Jog Falls, about 35 kms away. As we drove through the intermittent drizzle, I noticed the greenery all around was like a carpet stretching from the side of the road, to the farms, trees, and even walls of the village houses. I was almost tempted to stop the car, get out into the drizzle, and roll on the green spread.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

We had been advised to visit the Linganamakki Dam, the China Gate, and the Jog Falls in that order.

On the highway, also called B H road, we took a left turn at Churikatte, 18 kms from Sagar. We stopped at a roadside cycle shop in Idwani, a small village, to ask for directions.

"Jog straight, Jog straight," shouted the man at the shop, perhaps misjudging us to be foreigners, with our weird clothes, hats and expensive cameras. He appeared surprised when I spoke in Kannada, the local language.

A smile appeared on his face, and he directed us to a nondescript road that took us to a point from where we could get a good view of the dam.
